 Coffeyville, KS River Road

Just wondering if any of you outlaws ever ride Coffeyville's River Road trails. I'm guessing at the size but I think there is probably 300 acres. It's on the Verdigris River. There is a ridge or long hill that rises steeply from the river and runs along the river for a couple miles. Between the river and the top of the ridge are lots of trails. Some are easy, some difficult and some impossible. They range from smooth dirt to rough rocky trails. They range from slopes to hills to steep to extremely steep. There is a high bluff that overlooks the river valley. Its a beautiful view but dangerous as it is straight down several hundred feet. Just be sure you can see where you are riding and can stop in time. Its covered with trees and in the summer if you play tag you can quickly lose someone if they fail to stick to you. There are enough trails you can ride for most of the day. There are no bathrooms or improvements so you will want to pack a cooler with drinks and a sandwich. On weekends you will always find people riding. If interested find Cline Road in Coffeyville, go north on Cline out of town. You will pass a football stadium on your right, keep going about a mile and the road will curve left or west. Do not go this way. Instead continue straight, take the first turn to the right or east. This will be black top. follow this road, maybe a mile and you will come to gravel intersection, continue straight. This road is rarely if ever maintained. If it is muddy you may have to park on edge of road and unload. If it is not too muddy you can drive further and you will begin to see the trails. Most people unload when they get to the river. Several people have been killed there so be careful. Most of those killed are racing down the road at high speeds and hit trees.

Thanks for the info...yeah, we've heard of a few locals having some bad crashes up there or flipping their ATVs all the way down the bluffs. WE might have to check this out sometime.

I use to live 3 miles from the trails . Me & my family would just rid eto the trails. I have ridden there since the early 80's.We actually made alot of the trails up on top... They use to have a hill there (Can't go up it now) called Killer Hill.. There is the Stair Steps section up on the hill above River road. & the Middle trails further down south from the north dam. You are right there are easy trails , diffacult trails & there are "You ain't getting me to go up them" trails....LOL I wish I had a dollar for each hour of ridding I have done at River Road. the last time we rode ther in Janurary we talked to the land owner who ownes most of the land,,,The only thing he ask is to haul off your trash...We even did a trash pick-up the day we rode there...Like he said there is trails for just about everybody....Please ride a tyour own risk. And highly adviced to wear all the safety equipment you can,,especially a helmet....
