that depends on what part of mo. you ride in. when I got the sticker for mark twain the guy said I would need a flag too but I have never had one. that don't mean you won't get a ticket I have just never met a ranger to ask. I think most of the other places in MO. you just have to buy a day pass.

Barry county Missouri (both riding areas around roaring river area) requires a slow moving sign and a flag. I have been stoped only once by a ranger that had us go to cassville and get the stuff. All other rangers only wanted to see the permit which is $10 for the life of your orv.

We are thinking about going riding near Cassville in the Mark Twain Forest, but don't know anything about it. We live near Dallas, but have in-laws in the Pineville, MO area, so we visit regularly.
If anyone has directions or information to the trail heads and suggestions of cabins to rent close to the trails. We may consider driving further over to Chadwick if it is better and has better accommodations. We would plan to ride for at least two days to get a good idea of everything.
We plan to start out by staying three days at Mena, AR and riding the Wolf Pen Gap trails which will be a first time also. Then up to Missouri to visit the relatives and more riding at Mark Twain. Thanks for any suggestions. We have two ATV's and our son rides a dirt bike.

Just saw this post so sorry for the delay in responding... :-X
I have never ridden in MO, but have been to Wolf Pen Gap...
We stayed here...
http://www.wolfpenatv.com/
We actually stayed in the Cabin on the front page...Dogwood I think it was called...If I was gonna do it again, I would stay in the A frame cabins(a lot cheaper, but you have to use community showers/restrooms...they were decent)...The cabin was nice(a little on the small side, especcially for three grown men :() but it did have a full kitchen and bathroom...
The A frames are definitely little older, but much cheaper...
The trails were alright...Mostly old logging roads..You can get into some pretty hairy stuff when you get up a little higher, but most of the lower trails are fairly tame...You get to ride across several creek crossings which is always fun and alot of places won't let you anymore...The scenery in that area is really nice(in the Ouachita "mountains")...We went there last year(me and about 6 other married guys with utility ATV's, the other three stayed in the larger Hickory Cabin$$$) and we are planning on going back this year...Hope this helps :-X
Let us know about your MO trip... ::)

In Missirie, you only need flags and a slow moving traingle if going to be on county roads and forest service roads. You need permits for National parks (aka Mark Twain and Sutton Bluffs) and for certian countys that are ATV FRIENDLY, such as Reynolds and Iron County.
For more info look on the Missouri state web site.
