Yesterday, March 14 I headed for Burbank, OK to find the rock quarry but was not sure if I could ride there so I headed for Appalachia Bay. Outside of Cleveland, OK while crossing the bridge over the river I noticed people riding along the banks of the backwater areas. I just had to stop and give it a try. It was a lot of fun ripping up the mud and sand below the high water level mark. I then went over to Appalachia Bay and found it to be even more enjoyable riding the deeply notched out trails and the sandy shoreline. There is one area where the trails are notched down at least 12 feet deep making them into small canyons. I noticed one "canyon" really looked interestingly narrow with a 90 degree turn in it. I got off the quad surveyed it from above and it looked possible and if it was not I thought I could back out of it. WRONG. When I got to the bend to turn and saw I could not make it forward my large tires would not let me back up in the 90 degree bend of the canyon. The tires got stuck against the roots and a small tree lining the bend . The more I struggled backward and forward the worse it got. The Honda has a bank sensor which shuts it off when the machine is at a 70 degree sideway angle. I was stuck sideways at a 90 degree angle up against roots and that damn small tree. I walked back towards the parking lot over a mile away for HELP. Almost to the parking lot a young man riding a dirt bike stopped to see why I was walking and was nice enough to go take a look at the fix I was in to see if he could help. He could not believe what he saw. I wish I had brought my camera. Once we got it level enough to start the motor we managed to get it out without to much trouble and the only damage was a couple of plastic plugs popped out of the rear fender. I like to have interesting stories to tell but I could have passed on this one.
