I'm new to the forums. I post some over at atvconnection forums and 4wheel4food suggested I look here for some info on riding spots. One in particular I'm interested in is Appalachia Bay. Is it worth an hour and a half drive? I ride an Arctic Cat 400 4x4. Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

What do you normally like to ride? As in conditions and so forth? I like Appalchia Bay, but it's not my favorite. When I do ride there, I like to go for a few hours and then go over to Keystone Dam down the road...that makes a good day of riding. You can hit 2 spots.
Where are you driving from?

I live in Shawnee. My all-time favorite place to ride is on the S. Canadian river. I've had my truck below Keystone a few times and it seems like it would be fairly fun on the atv. Mainly, I'm just looking for some new places to go that would be fairly close to home. The river ain't always low enough to ride on. I like trails and riverbottoms mainly. Is Appalachia crowded? Thanks.

Welcome toenhaus...Glad you made it...I ride at App Bay probably 1 out 3 times I ride(which is just about every weekend)...When the lake(Keystone) is down(as it is now) there is alot of beach area to ride...The trails(inward from the beaches) range from mostly easy to a few very difficult ones...It is not at all like river bottom riding if that's all your in to, but it makes for a really varied day of trail/beach riding...It does get crowded on beautiful 70 degree days..Most of the time it is not...Even when it is "crowded" it really is not bad at all...Probably the worst part on very crowded days is finding somewhere to park..I have always found somewhere to park...Once you're on the trails it really isn't bad at all.....Below the dam(which is called Whitewater Bay) is approx. 10 minutes away...It's alot smaller, but it does have some very fun areas...The only thing to remember about Whitewater Bay is it is closed from Mid November to Early March for Bald Eagle nesting and observation....Also, this area is only about 10 minutes away from the Sand Springs/Sapulpa area where there are many pllaces to eat and car washes and gas stations....I usually stop there on the way back into twon and wash bikes and trailer and get something to eat...Hope this helps...Whether it is worth your time, you will have to be the judge of that...I don't mind driving up to 3 hours one way to ride because I love riding in alot of diff. places(Just drove three hours round-trip yesterday to ride )...Once again, welcome and come back soon...

Thanks for the welcome and the info. It sounds like AB would be worth checking out. Are there any other places up NE that are worth riding? Oh, I remember reading somewhere that some of the trails at AB are a little narrow. My AC 400 is pretty big. Will I have a lot of trouble fitting on the trails? Thanks.

We have Prairies and Grizzly's and we fit...BARELY...some of the little valleys AKA ditches are tight fits. We didn't have any problems getting through the gate to go out to ride. We had fun on our big bikes...
By the way, welcome to the forum!!!!!! Hope to ride with you soon...

First of all, welcome 4by700 ...I will look for you next time I'm out at App Bay..You might look on here, I usually post where I am going riding before I go(just about every weekend) ...Toenhaus..I used to have a '04 Polaris Sportsman 400 and I got around just fine out at App Bay..There were a few areas where it got a little tight, but no worse than anywhere else out there...Stay tuned on this forum...I'm sure one of us will be going out there soon and maybe we could give you the grand tour... It is nice going out there with someone who knows their way around..It's pretty easy to get turned around and confused out there....

4wheel,
Thanks for the offer. Hopefully, we can get together and ride sometime. I don't get to ride near as much as I want during the school year. I coach 3 sports so I don't have a whole lot of free time. Summers...I have lots more riding time then.

Went riding last Sunday at Appalachia and had a blast. The water was real low and a lot of tight sand was exposed. Spent a lot of time at the west end racing around the water's edge at a high rate of speed. With spring coming, the lake level will be rising and the beach will shrink. Better get it while you can...
