Sugar Creek Horse Trail totals 35 miles with various loops allowing for 2-hour to all-day rides. Two trailheads allow access to this trail, which is classified easy to difficult. Much of the Sugar Creek trail consists of an unsurfaced path running over old, open logging roads and areas cut through the forest that are only the width of an ATV. Primarily pine, the forest includes some mixed hardwoods and crosses Sugar Creek several times. The area is remote with several high vantage points and beautiful scenery. The main access point at Knoppers Ford Recreation Area has 12 primitive campsites along a stream. There is no electricity or water, but there are vault toilets. About two miles from Knopper Ford, Jack Creek Recreation Area provides six primitive campsites. There is no user fee.
Sugar Creek Trail is located about 10 miles south of Booneville. Take Ark. 23 south from Booneville and then turn east on Ark. 116. Turn south on County Road 19 for eight miles to Knoppers Ford Recreation Area. Proceed south past Knoppers Ford for one-half mile to Forest Service Road S30. Turn left onto the forest service road and travel about one and a quarter mile to the trailhead. For more information, contact the Cold Springs Ranger District at (479) 675-3233
