I read a letter to the editor in last week's Siloam Springs Herald Leader. I heard a rumor that someone thought it was my friends in the Rebel Outlaws...so I quickly squashed that and decided to write a letter myself clarifying that it wasn't. Geez, I hate rumors!!!!!!!!
Letter to the Editor,
After reading Lois Spears' letter last week concerning the Siloam Springs Christmas Parade, I would like to clarify that my ATV group, the Rebel Outlaws, were not the ones doing wheelies and other dangerous stunts in the parade. My group was in the Disney, Oklahoma Christmas Parade on the same evening. We were told that some people in the community thought it was our group and I'd like to say that it wasn't.
The Rebel Outlaws are a group of riders who are responsible. During our participation in the Disney Christmas Parade, we had a great crowd response. We handed out candy to the children standing along the parade route. We also had people walking and handing out candy to the crowds. We did not toss candy randomly for fear of the kids running out into the street and fear of hitting someone while tossing candy.
In two years, we have participated in many Christmas parades. I feel like anyone participating in a Christmas parade should be very careful of tossing candy. No one wants to see a child run for a piece of candy and be ran over.
I feel like maybe the city should rethink letting anyone in the parade toss candy from moving vehicles of any kind. They should let people walking hand out the candy and keep everyone a safe distance from the parade, but let's not ban certain types of moving vehicles because of incidents that happened during this year's parade.
